Use layered protection against mosquitoes

How to protect yourself

Use three layers of protection. Apply an approved mosquito repellent to exposed skin exactly as the label says. Wear loose, long clothing, especially around dusk and in mosquito-heavy areas. Add a physical barrier by using window screens, closed doors, or a mosquito net around your sleeping area.

Why layers help

Mosquitoes are not looking for “sweet blood”. They use several signals, including exhaled CO₂, body odour, warmth, and proximity. That makes single hacks unreliable. When you protect your skin, clothing, and room at the same time, a mosquito has to get past several barriers before it can bite you.

What not to overrate

Research suggests that some people can remain more attractive to mosquitoes over time and that skin odour matters. That does not give you a reliable food or fragrance trick. Beer, bananas, perfume, or eucalyptus are not a solid protection plan. Use repellents as directed, and never apply permethrin directly to your skin.
