Tone down bright areas
If your iPhone still feels glaring in a dark room at minimum brightness, turn on Reduce White Point. This gives you another way to soften bright areas without changing settings in every app.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility β Display & Text Size.
- Turn on Reduce White Point.
- Adjust the slider that appears. A higher value reduces the intensity of bright colors more strongly.
- Open a page with a white background and check that the text is still comfortable to read.
Why this extra control helps
The standard brightness slider is not the only control that affects a glaring screen. Apple describes this accessibility feature as reducing the intensity of bright colors. White pages can therefore look less luminous. You do not need the app to support dark mode, and you do not need to enable a color filter.
Check it again in daylight
Do not automatically choose the highest value. If reading becomes difficult, reduce the strength. In a bright room or outdoors, the setting may leave your screen looking too dim; turn it off in the same menu when needed.
Also disable it before judging photo brightness, colors, or design work, because it visibly changes the display. Treat this as a comfort adjustment, not a promise of better sleep.
