What to do
Use your beach towel no more than twice in summer before washing it. If you sweated heavily, went into the sea or pool, used lots of sunscreen, or notice a musty smell, wash it right away.
After every use, let the towel dry completely. Hang it open instead of rolling it up damp or leaving it inside your swim bag.
Why it helps
A towel collects sweat, skin cells, sunscreen, sand, and moisture. Warm damp fabric starts smelling faster and gives germs a better place to linger.
Washing it regularly keeps the towel fresher and removes the buildup of body residue and skincare products that accumulates quickly in summer.
Simple rule
For normal use, wash it after one or two uses. Wash it earlier in hot weather, high humidity, after pool or seawater, or whenever the towel is visibly dirty.
For the pool, beach, or holidays, pack a second towel when you can. That way you are not forced to reuse a damp one just because it is convenient.
Common mistakes
Do not leave the towel damp in your bag for hours. That is exactly where odors build up quickly.
Do not rely on sunshine alone either. Drying helps, but it does not replace washing once sweat, sunscreen, and sand are already in the fabric.
