After parking, I always photograph the bay number and the level. So many corners of a multi-storey car park look alike. Taking out my phone is easier for me than remembering “somewhere in the blue section”.
Record the details before you leave
- Once you have stepped out, photograph the bay number and the sign showing the level or section. If there is no number, capture a distinctive pillar or sign.
- Check that the details are readable. A blurry picture will not be much help later.
- Are there several stairwells or lifts? Take another picture of the label on the entrance you actually use.
Use the photos as your return note
Open the pictures in your photo app before heading back. Find the right entrance and level first, then the section and bay. A bay number alone may not be unique: the same number can appear on several floors.
No tracking or extra app required
This tip relies on visible signs, not the location stored with a photo. You do not need GPS or an internet connection. Only take pictures while safely stationary, and avoid unnecessarily including other people. Once you are back at the car, you can delete the pictures. If your battery is nearly empty, write the details on your parking ticket as well.
